Cover: This was a special order, so I have all 4 variant regular covers. First on the list, "Autobot Cover by E.J. Su" on this cover we see Wheeljack, Prowl, Jazz and Ratchet, characters are smooth round the edges, but very accurate to their proper look. Next we move on to "Decepticon Cover by E.J. Su" on this cover we see Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Runabout and Starscream, as with the Autobot cover the characters are smoothed out but still accurate. For the third cover we look at "Megatron Cover by James Raiz" This cover is as you'd expect dominated by Megatron, however in the background we see Starscream and Soundwave, in the foreground we have terrified humans. Megatron looks slightly different to his expected look, but close enough to forgive. The mecha characters are closer to Dreamwave's art, and have that gritty real look. And lastly we look at "Optimus Prime Cover by Milx" This is an amazing cover, it shows Optimus battling with Megatron, and winning, the look is very similar to Dreamwave's covers, but as I never saw Optimus in the Dreamwave G1 comics I can't comment on that.
Story: We open at a bus station, and a girl, obviously a runaway, cataloging her options for theft, including a man with a palm computer, saying she misses nothing. We switch to the inside of a car, clearly Decepticon, matching a photo to the man with the palm computer as he's boarding a bus. We shift again to the bus travelling, the person the Decepticons are after is asleep the girl from before cuts into his bag and steals his palm computer. Soon after she fakes feeling sick and gets off the bus which then continues on it's way. The girl is sitting repacking her bag as a white and black car pass by, then with the palm computer in her bag she starts to hitchike. A Decepticon files a report that the target was sanitized by the cache was gone, another Decepticon orders them to find it. The girl meanwhile has been picked up by one Hunter O'Nion (said Oh-Ny-Hon) we find out the girl is one Verity Carter. Verity is heading for LA but Hunter can only take her as far as Desert Center. Verity teases him, guessing he's after "Little green men" Hunter replies "Not exactly..." Swerving Hunter sees a column of smoke in the distance, where there shouldn't be anything at all. Heading to it we find it's the bus Verity was on, everyone's okay minus one, the man Verity stole the palm computer from! As Hunter and Verity head off again Hunter tells her what he's after... Extraterrestrial Mechanoids that are in disguise. Seconds later Hunter's van is scanned... By a jet palne with sonic boom capabilities! Verity accuses Hunter of driving into a military testing range, hunter tells her it's not "our" military. A Decepticon reports that it's found the cache, one of the Decepticon jets orders the other to contain it and purge it. As Hunter and Verity run from his van a missile from the jet destroys it and Hunter realizes that the cockpit is empty and that means surrender isn't an option. As they run from the jet an ambulance approaches them and shoots at the jet, then the driver tells them to come with him if they want to live ... To Be Continued...
Graphics: No frackin' contest, the graphics and artistry in this are amazing, they almost take you into the story. Accurate in the reality of the vehicles and the buildings, but a bit off in the reality of the humans, unless Hunter's a bit of a Pinocchio.
Bonuses: In this issue we have an interview with Transformers "go-to-guy" Simon Furman that is honestly, a must for all Transfans. There's also a couple pages of mecha sketches by E.J. Su including a hand and general arm and leg movements as well as a bit of background on the artist himself. The last bonus isn't a bonus as such, it's the back cover that is in fact the IDW promo poster for The Transformers!
Readers Letters: As this is issue 0 there aren't any letters, but we do get introduced to the editor-in-chief and a bit about Transformers from IDW.
